Noori Top

Noori Top is located on the border between NWFP and Kashmir. The long journey to Noori Top from Naran starts on the main Naran-Babusar jeep road (the road under renovation and re-carpeting). The road passes through the small towns of Batakundi, Burwai and Jalkad along the Kunhar River. There are a few shops and local hotels in these towns and as the tourist flow beyond Naran in minimal, these towns have escaped both the destruction and development that mass tourism brings in its wake.  Although the local mud and stone construction, unpolluted air and water and, thick forests and green hills are welcome contrast to the mad rush of tourists and concrete jungle at Naran, the lack of tourists have also resulted in minimum basic facilities for the local population, with no electricity, and minimum health and communication infrastructure.

At Jalkad, the recently constructed jeep road to Noori Top branches off from the main road which continues towards Babusar Pass. The traffic on this narrow road is minimal, with few jeeps and old 4x4 trucks plying between Naran and Kashmir.

The views from Naran all the way to Noori Top are spectacular. Noori Top itself is a vast green meadow. The road, after passing through Noori Top, descends into Kashmir.

It is always advisable to take your own water and food on the trip as there is no place to stay or eat between Jalkad and Noori Top. Transport to Noori Top can be arranged at Naran.
