Shogran

Shogran (2400 meters) is a lush green beautiful but small plateau. The main attraction (for me) is the vast, sprawling green (in summer) lawn of the NWFP Forest Department’s rest house. From there the view all around on a clear day is breathtakingly beautiful. Other than that there are a few decent and one luxury hotel and that’s about it. For me a few hours stop in Shogran is always refreshing. If I stay longer than that, it becomes boring. But if you absolutely have to spend more time in Shogran, you can drive (in a 4x4) or walk further up to Siri and Paya (described in next section).

Shogran is 104 kilometers from Abbottabad, 80 kilometers from Mansehra and 34 kilometers from Balakot. Public transport up to Kawai (24 KM from Balakot), where a road branches of to Shogran from the main Mansehra-Naran highway, is easily available from Mansehra and Balakot. From Kawai a jeep has to be hired for further journey up to Shogran or alternately a jeep can be hired at Balakot that can take you directly to Shogran.
